“I Don’t Know If It’s a Coincidence, But…”
My first brush with BEMER therapy was in 2013. I had recently undergone a hysterectomy followed by weeks of daily radiotherapy after a cancer diagnosis. My body was in total shock. It had developed sudden and severe food intolerances. Even a whisper of milk, wheat, or yeast would turn me into a bloated human balloon – gassing, squitting and staggering through exhaustion.
The Reluctant Yoga Class
One day, I reluctantly dragged myself to a friend’s house for a small yoga session. My friends Ali and Dave were there, the yoga teacher, together with a guest unfamiliar to me staying over from America. Not what I needed, socialising was the last thing on my to-do-list. I unenthusiastically joined in the yoga class, barely managing a smile, let alone a buttock clenched Downward Dog.
After the session, the conversation turned to something called a BEMER. My interest was piqued when Ali, who had been suffering from intense arm pain for months—casually mentioned she’d played tennis that morning. “Wait, what?” I asked. “How?”
“The BEMER,” she said, as if it were obvious. The visiting American explained that BEMER therapy used a mat that emitted a low-frequency electromagnetic pulse, designed to mimic natural Earth frequencies. She went on to say that we have smogged out a lot of the Earth’s healing frequencies with other electromagnetic fields (EMFs) caused by various sources like Wi-Fi, mobile phones, power lines, and other electronic devices.
My eyes glazed over, I had no clue what she was talking about. She could see my confusion and said why don’t you have a go.
So we all took a turn at laying down on a blue mat connected by a cable to a box with lights flashing. As I lay I felt… nothing. But I thanked her politely and left.
I noticed my walk back to the car felt oddly easier. In the days that followed, the bloating, pain, and “explosions” that had plagued me for months began to ease. My body was—dare I say—calmer.
The following week I met up with Ali and Dave for yoga. BEMER therapy came up in conversation. Ali told me that her American friend credited the BEMER for enabling her to live a normal life despite having MS, amongst other immune disorders. Ali went on to say that she didn’t know if it was a coincidence but following a few more goes on the BEMER her arm was completely better.
Could this really all be due to BEMER therapy, perhaps it was a placebo effect? But then all our expectations had been low.
Naturally, I began researching. At the time, BEMER therapy was relatively unknown in the UK and met with scepticism. I learned it was originally developed in Austria in1999 for use in veterinary medicine, especially in equine therapy—an industry that doesn’t tolerate gimmicks. Top Olympic riders, including Dutch show jumper Jur Vrieling, were already using it regularly.
Later, BEMER therapy was adapted for human use. The scientific premise is based on improving microcirculation—the flow of blood in the smallest vessels of the body (capillaries, arterioles, venules). The BEMER’s pulsed electromagnetic field helps stimulate vasomotion—the rhythmic contraction and dilation of these vessels—which helps oxygen and nutrients reach tissues more efficiently while clearing out waste.
Improved microcirculation is connected to a wide range of health benefits, including:
And the kicker? No known side effects.
I found countless testimonials. Even tennis legend Roger Federer credited BEMER therapy, saying it helped him to recover faster allowing him to stay at the top of his game for longer.
The evidence was compelling. I bought a BEMER unit—and I’ve never looked back. It became my daily ritual, an anchor in my recovery journey.
Even my cat and dog loved it. They’d curl up on the BEMER mat next to me. My old arthritic cat, usually too stiff to tackle the cat flap, found new agility and would get up and clamber through the flap in the door to the outside.
12 years on since that blessed day, I read that BEMER has now accumulated peer-reviewed research spanning 25 years and more recently, a collaboration with NASA to integrate BEMER technology into future spacesuits.
Over the years, friends and their pets have joined the “I-don’t-know-if-it’s-a-coincidence-but…” club. Some feel warmth, others energy. Some feel nothing at all. But almost everyone reports improvement—however unexpected.
It’s easy to dismiss things we don’t understand. I did. But now, years later, I consider purchasing the BEMER kit as one of the best decisions I ever made.
I don’t claim miracles, but I do believe in lived experience.
BEMER therapy brought subtle but significant changes when I needed them most. And that, for me, was no coincidence. The use of BEMER therapy should not replace consultation with a qualified healthcare provider. Individuals with active medical implants (e.g., pacemakers), diagnosed deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or those undergoing immunosuppressive therapy should consult their physician before use.
